Question the elements or gas?
Look at flushing the trash from the bottom.

This is the third in two days I’ve said this too.
THEY ARE WATER HEATERS,,, NOT hot water heaters,,,sigh.
Cheap is relative, size matters, all are customarily the same inside, source of power matters.
Lowes/HD/Sears, etc all sell water heaters, all are resonable, depending on your needs and desires.
IT’S an appliance and shouldn’t be expected to last for your life time.

YOU RUN OUT OF HOT WATER IN A FEW MINUTES-YOU HAVE AN ELECTRIC WATER HEATER AND THE BOTTOM ELEMENT IS NOT HEATING DUE TO A BURNED OUT ELEMENT, A BAD LOWER THERMOSTAT, BAD UPPER THERMOSTAT OR A BAD CONNECTION. DON’T REPLACE, REPAIR. YOU WILL NEED A TEST LIGHT OR VOLTMETER TO CHECK WHETHER YOU HAVE POWER TO LOWER ELEMENT WHEN THE TOP STAT SWITCHES POWER FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM THERMOSTAT AND ELEMENT. THE OVERWHELMING ODDS ARE THE BOTTOM ELEMENT IS OPEN AND YOU NEED TO REPLACE IT BUT IT IS EASY TO MEASURE AND TROUBLESHOOT THESE THINGS. NEXT MOST LIKELY IS A BAD BOTTOM THERMOSTAT OR BAD/BURNED END ON A WIRE GOING TO BOTTOM ELEMENT OR STAT. 250BUCKS FOR A WATER HEATER OR 20BUCKS FOR PARTS, LABOR 0 IF YOU DIY. MAY NEED TO PURCHASE A VOLTMETER/TESTLITE AND SOCKET TO PULL ELEMENT IF IT IS SCREW-IN TYPE.

Why replace when it could be something as simple as a burnt out bottom element or a dip tube (small plastic tube on the cold water side under the water connection)?
