I һаνе a 2 ѕtοrу house wіtһ 1 water heater. It's always bееח ѕƖοw getting hot water upstairs, usually around 60-90 seconds. Now, tһеrе іѕ חο hot water getting upstairs. I've checked mу gas line tο tһе heater, חο problem tһеrе. I've drained аחԁ refilled іt. Hot water іѕ getting tο mу sinks downstairs, tһе dishwasher аחԁ tһе washing machine, bυt חοt even a drop οf warm water wіƖƖ reach upstairs anymore. It іѕ a Rheem 40 gallon heater mаԁе іח 1991. Aחу һеƖр wουƖԁ bе appreciated. Thanks іח advance.
I guess I need tο ехрƖаіח іt a ƖіttƖе bit more. Mу house іѕ 10 years οƖԁ, ѕο tһе pipes аrе copper. It іѕ a gas water heater, ѕο elements aren't tһе problem.. Another thing, Ɩіkе I ѕаіԁ tһе water downstairs gets hot, іt's upstairs wһеrе I һаνе tһе problem аחԁ іf іt іѕ tһе pipe between downstairs аחԁ upstairs, I һаνе חο clue һοw tο ɡеt tο tһеm tο сƖеаח tһеm out ѕіחсе tһеу're аƖƖ behind walls.
If tһеrе іѕ a clogged pipe, shouldn't NO water аt аƖƖ come through wһеח I turn tһе hot water knob?

Ah, today my mom had to have a guy come to our water heater to chek it out. I’m in a fam. of 6 with our whole fam. each day we need lots of warm water and the heater only works through 2-3 of the showers we take

It’s not your hot water heater. It’s either the pipes or the system pressure on your water pump.

If you are referring to the flow of hot water, then you are probably experiencing a catastrophic buildup of scale (Calcium or Magnesium Carbonate) in the vertical pipes supplying up-stair utilities. Anytime you heat hard (untreated) water you are going to precipitate the solids. These solids tend to stick to the inside walls of the pipes. This problem can be compounded by sub-standard piping designs. Look for salty white buildup on the exterior of valves, elbows, joints, etc. Trace piping from H2O heater to upstairs as a start.

hello there .. I think that you have 2 choices in the first probably your pipeline for the hot water are clogged as you know many times the water is hard water, this can make crust inside of the pipe and the amount of water can be re ducted drastically in this case you can try to wire inside and check if some crust going out (this can be possible to , if you force air with a compressor if the probe is positive you need change the pipeline this is more problematic if your pipes are made of galvanized steel if this is the material and your home have more of 30 years for sure you need change this for cooper is more difficult that tartar stay inside even PVC pipes are more sure against the crust , so the other thing can be that your faucet are clogged with some strange material ( soldering, tartar, some sand etc.) water heathers have an expected life of 20 to 25 years not matter about the brand so maybe is rust inside and this particles going for the pipe line too…

maybe you need to get it serviced

Here it is in layman’s talk.Get a water hose 50′ or so connect one end to the hot water faucet down stairs laundry tub, washing machine outlet will have the screw on type of adaptor.take the other end upstairs over the bathtub, have someone open the HW tap.If you get lots of hot water, then its your pipe that’s BO.If the hot water has no presser,do this,go down get a wash pail mark it on the top inside fill the pail to line by timing it, go upstairs and do the same thing with hose.If there is a 10% or more time wise then its the lack of presser on the cold water side that makes hot water flow in your pipes.you should have 75 to 110 psi. or a 3/4 inch pipe feed line from main to HTW tank is a plus in a upstairs washroom. If there is not enough HW,then go to your tank. And look at the temp.set tings, what colour is the pilot light, when was the last cheque up done etc.etc.

If your pipes are plugged up, you water pressure would be low or no water at all at the faucets upstairs. First, check pressure at the faucets upstairs. Open the cold and let it run. Then close the cold and open the hot faucet, Is there a noticeable difference?? If not, then the pipes are OK. Next, turn on a hot water tap upstairs and let it run. Make sure everything else is off in the house. Go to the water heater and feel the hot water line coming out of the heater. is it hot??? If it is, then hot water is leaving the heater. Now follow the line and see where it turns up to go upstairs. Is it hot there?? If it is, then go upstairs to the faucet the is running and see if the line is hot, or warm coming out of the wall or floor and up to the supply to the faucet. If it is slightly warm or hot, them that is OK. If you have a single handle faucet, then the cartridge is bad and it is mixing cold with hot water at the faucet, therefore preventing any hot water from coming out of the faucet. Replacing the cartridge or seats and springs in the faucet will fix this. Now, if the water is just barely hot or lukewarm, try turning up the t-stat on the water heater. They can get out of calibration through the years. Just don’t turn it so high you get burned. Hope this helps! Good luck!
